Student Experiences
Experiential learning is the key to bridging classroom study with real-world opportunities. At Management, we believe in enhancing your studies through internships, co-curricular activities, and other learning opportunities.
Playhouse Square
Located in the heart of Cleveland, Playhouse Square is the largest performing arts complex in the U.S. outside of New York City. As the primary artistic partner of the BW arts management & entrepreneurship major, Playhouse Square offers a unique operating model for students to learn from. Throughout your four years, you will have the opportunity to interact with professionals from Playhouse Square, gaining hands-on experience and insider knowledge. Every spring, BW arts management & entrepreneurship students collaborate with Playhouse Square staff to produce its highly acclaimed International Children’s Theater Festival.
Internships
At Management, we understand the importance of practical experience. That’s why we require three internships for the arts management & entrepreneurship major, including one on-campus and two off-campus placements. However, we encourage you to participate in additional internships to further your career goals. Our dedicated advisors and program director will assist you in choosing internship sites that connect you with professionals in your area of interest. Previous students have interned at a wide range of prestigious organizations, such as the Cleveland Orchestra, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Walt Disney World.
Senior Capstone
In your final spring semester, you will have the opportunity to participate in the senior capstone program. This invaluable experience will provide you with the necessary professional development and preparation for the job market. As part of a team, you will produce a show at Playhouse Square, assuming roles such as marketing directors, operations managers, and education directors. This hands-on experience will allow you to make real-world decisions and witness the results of your efforts.
Arts Management Association
Take your education to the next level by joining the BW Arts Management Association (AMA). This dynamic organization focuses on real-world experiences and helps develop your interests in art, creative writing, dance, film, music, and theatre. Each year, AMA members have the opportunity to travel to major arts hubs like Nashville, New York City, or Chicago to meet with arts leaders. This exciting experience enables you to build relationships with established professionals and learn more about potential careers. Additionally, AMA sponsors numerous workshops, fundraisers, events, and panel discussions throughout the year to help you build valuable skills and networking connections.
Guest Artists
At Management, we believe that exposure to industry professionals is essential for your growth and success. That’s why we regularly invite guest artists to visit BW for workshops and presentations. This provides you with a valuable opportunity to learn more about the field, connect with professionals, and expand your network of contacts. Recent guest artists have included Corey Atkins, Artistic Associate for Engagement at the Cleveland Play House, and Karen Gahl Mills, Executive Director of Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
